Capsule Geology

A molybdenum occurrence (#247) is shown on Geological Survey of Canada Open File 2322 as being located in the Sicintine Range, 83 kilometres north-northeast of Hazelton.

The showing is documented as a porphyry-type occurrence hosted in Late Cretaceous Bulkley Intrusions which are mainly granodiorite in composition. The Bulkley Intrusions intrude clastic sedimentary rocks of the Middle Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group. These comprise mainly sandstone, siltstone, shale, conglomerate, argillite with minor coal and carbonaceous units.

Work History

In 1969, the Pat group of claims was described as being located approximately 8 kilometres east of Sicintine Lake and in the approximate area of the Sicintine Range 2 occurrence. The claims covered a granodiorite-sedimentary contact hosting 0.3- to 3.0-metre wide dikes with pyrite and minor molybdenite-chalcopyrite mineralization in fractures, quartz veins and dikes over an area of approximately 60 by 180 metres. A second zone of mineralization was reported 300 metres east of the previous zone. An 18-kilogram sample from a mineralized dike yielded 0.233 per cent molybdenite and 0.06 per cent copper, whereas a similar sized sample of hornfels yielded 0.016 per cent molybdenite and 0.02 per cent copper (Property File 812846).
